With the largest population on earth, China is every bit as vibrant and mystical as you would expect from such a culturally rich destination. This oriental country is ever increasing in infrastructure and tourist opportunities. With such a wide variety of hotels China caters well for the traveler and with its ancient historical and religious sights, spectacular natural attractions and exceptional food, not to mention the pulsating modern cities such as Hong Kong, China is a truly fascinating country to visit.

The capital, Beijing is often a first stop for visitors and is an inspiring place to begin your Chinese adventure. The amazing Forbidden City and the delicious local cuisine set this city apart. Shanghai also has many attractions to offer its visitors with beautiful architecture dominating the scenery. Escape these concrete jungles and head to Guilin or Hangzhou for some of the most attractive scenery the country has to offer. From cheap and cheerful guesthouses to luxurious five-star hotels China offers it all.

Beijing is not only the country's capital but is the cultural, industrial and economic epicenter. Its long and colorful past has blessed the city with a multitude of heritage sights and treasures. Arguably the greatest highlight is the Forbidden City. This awesome, ancient complex was once the imperial palace of the rulers of the Qing and Ming dynasties. Other popular highlights include the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong in Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, Beijing Aquarium and the Great Wall.

Shanghai is known for its fine architecture consisting of traditional 19th and 20th century buildings along with some superb Art Deco structures. Visit the city's waterfront area called the Bund for some of the very best architectural examples. Other attractions include the Grand Theater, the Jin Mao Building, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Nanjing Road.

Hong Kong is popular with visitors and business people alike. Imposing skyscrapers, unequalled shopping, glimpses of wilderness and several outstanding beaches all add to the attraction. The Peak Tram will take you up to Victoria Park which boasts spectacular views of the island. Take a boat to neighboring Lantau Island, home to the colossal bronze Buddha statue of the Po Lin Monastery, or take a ferry to Macau for an interesting day out. Kids will love Hong Kong Disney or a swimming trip to Repulse Bay.

Guangzhou has a wealth of historical buildings as well as beautiful mountain scenery and pretty views of the Pearl River which cuts through the city. Hangzhou is known for its silk and tea production and is one of China's most picturesque and prosperous cities. The West Lake offers stunning views across the large natural expanse of water, famous for its 'Ten Sights'. Guilin is commonly thought of as the country's prettiest city. A nature lover's paradise with the beautiful Li River, Elephant Trunk Hill, Seven Star Park and Folded Brocade Hill, all well worth a visit.

For modern hotels China is at the top of its game. Air conditioned rooms with satellite or cable TV, minibar, room service and a personal safe are the norm. Many hotels offer free wireless internet, business centers, conference facilities, fitness centers and massage services. Hotel restaurants often offer a selection of International, Asian and Cantonese cuisines as well as local delicacies. Free parking, karaoke services and saunas are all available at certain hotels.

Eating out is an exciting and interesting option. Chinese food is world renowned and whether you eat from a roadside vendor or at an upmarket restaurant in Shanghai or Hong Kong you can rest assured that the food will be varied and tasty. Each region has its own delicacies worth sampling such as 'Beijing' Duck and Xi'an's 'yang rou pao mo' a delicious mutton soup.

China is host to a wide variety of modern and traditional events and festivals throughout the year based on lunar and solar calendars. The year kicks off with the most colorful and exciting celebration, Chinese New Year. Other major festivities include Ching Ming Festival on the 5th April, a Spring Remembrance event. Tin Hau (Goddess of Sea) Festival occurs in April or May and The Dragon Boat Event on the 5th day of the 5th moon in June sees beautifully designed, exquisitely painted dragon boats take to the water in Hong Kong. Lord Buddha's birthday is held on the 8th day of the 4th moon and is one of the foremost celebrations in China. This auspicious occasion sees thousands of devotees praying for forgiveness for their sins and for hope of achieving peace and wisdom.
